The new outdoor classroom at the gardens! Students and teachers will be able to come participate in hands-on field trips at the botanical gardens. This area is brand-new and still in development, but we have high hopes for its future in learning. The mural to right is hand-crafted work from one of our fabulous volunteers, Irene. She is helping decorate the gardens and has created one for the medical botany section and is working on a third.
For the next month, visitors to the University of South Florida Botanical Gardens will leave with a souvenir: their very own loofah seedling. Loofahs, contrary to popular belief (or maybe it was just my mistaken belief), do not grow at the bottom of the ocean floor. They are, in fact, a type of gourd (think pumpkins and squash). Besides being great for your hygiene and complexion, loofahs are relatively easy plants to grow. Come check out the gardens and get growing your loofah.
